In our daily routine, an hour of sitting at a desk can quickly turn into several hours. This long sitting time can often cause us to slouch, which can lead to poor posture and eventually result in back pain. Lucky for us, minor adjustments to our daily routine such as regularly stretching, can help reduce and even eliminate that discomfort. In this blog post, we will introduce you to a ten-minute daily stretch routine that can significantly improve your posture and help prevent back pain. Let’s dive in!
Introduction
Many people suffer from back pain every day, and it can often be caused by poor posture. Bad posture can lead to stress on the back and spine, causing discomfort and pain in the long run. A great way to combat this issue is through daily stretching, which can help improve posture and reduce back pain in just 10 minutes a day. In this article, we will introduce you to a yoga-inspired routine that opens up shoulders, expands the chest and mobilizes the spine, while gently strengthening your back. We will also include equipment recommendations, music suggestions, and other available stretching sessions. So, let’s get started.
Yoga-Inspired Routine
Our 10-minute stretching routine is yoga-inspired and includes exercises that smoothly slide into each other, making it feel like a comfortable and lovely flow.
Opening Up The Shoulders
Begin in a seated position with your legs crossed and your hands resting on your knees. Slowly, inhale and lift your shoulders up to your ears, then exhale and drop your shoulders back down. Repeat this a few times and then interlace your fingers behind your back, pushing your chest forward. Hold for ten breaths.
Expanding The Chest
Release your hands, take a deep inhale, and lift your arms straight up, stretching your chest. Clasping your left wrist with your right hand and leaning your body to the right, keeping your shoulders low. Hold this pose for ten breaths, then return to center, clasping your right wrist with your left hand and leaning to the left.
Mobilizing The Spine
Next, slowly lower your hands and place them on the floor, walking them forward into a forward fold. When you reach as far as you can comfortably go, begin to roll up one vertebra at a time, slowly lifting your upper body to standing position, inhaling as you reach your arms up. Exhale and fold back down and repeat ten times.
Strengthening The Back
Finish up the routine by coming into a bridge pose. Lay on your back with your feet flat on the floor and your arms alongside your body. Then, slowly lift your hips up towards the ceiling, engaging your back muscles. Hold this pose for ten breaths, then lower back down and repeat twice more.
Equipment Recommendations
In our videos, we use a recommended mat and vlogging camera, along with 100% natural makeup and a new mixer. We also recommend yoga- and sustainability-related products to help you get the most out of your stretching routine.
